Churchill move 3rd, beat Kashmir 2-1

Churchill Brothers notched up a 2-1 victory over Real Kashmir FC and rose to the third spot in the I-League table here today.

Willis Deon Plaza (11th minute) opened the scoring by converting a penalty before Lalkhawpuimawia (20th minute) added the second with a stunning strike. Robin Singh (82nd minute) pulled one back for the Snow Leopards. Churchill’s left-winger Socrates Pedro was named the player of the match. The victory took Churchill to third in the I-League standings with 19 points, while Kashmir remained in seventh place with 15 points. It was Real Kashmir’s second successive defeat, having gone down 0-1 to second-placed Punjab FC in Ludhiana. Mohun Bagan lead the standings.

AFC Cup: Bengaluru lose

Male: Without their talisman Sunil Chhetri, Bengaluru FC saw their AFC Cup qualifying campaign hit a roadblock as they lost to Maziya S&RC here today. Goals from Ibrahim Mahudhee (64th) and Cornelius Stewart (80th) on either side of a Nili Perdomo (71st) penalty for the Blues gave Maziya a 2-1 win and the advantage ahead of the second leg in Bengaluru next week.

A new high for FC Goa

Jamshedpur: FC Goa on Wednesday became the first team from the country to qualify for the group stage of the AFC Champions League, the continent’s top-tier club competition, after beating Jamshedpur FC 5-0 in an Indian Super League match here.

Ferran Corominas (11th), Hugo Boumous (70th and 90th), Jackichand Singh (84th) and Mourtada Fall (87th) scored for FC Goa to ensure that their side ended the league phase of the ISL on top spot. The top team at the end of the league stage has been guaranteed a berth in the 2021 AFC Champions League. FC Goa ended the league phase with 39 points after 18 matches. India U-17 girls beat Romania 1-0

New Delhi: The Indian U-17 women’s team registered a 1-0 victory over Romania in its second friendly match in Turkler, Turkey, today. Priyangka Devi scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute from a penalty. The first friendly match had ended in a 3-3 draw on Sunday. Reuters
