City girls face defeat in hockey

Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu handed over a 4-2 defeat to Hockey Chandigarh in a pool-C match of the 10th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2020 (A Division) in Kollam (Kerala).

Hockey Chandigarh inched ahead through a field goal in the 7th minute, but Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu took control of the match after finding the equaliser in the 10th minute. R Nivetha (10th minute), J Ammukutty (20th), A Kamaleshwari (40th) and A Gayathiri (48th) found the back of the net for Tamil Nadu. City skipper Manju netted the first goal for the side in the 7th minute, while Dhapa Devi netted second goal in the 60th minute.

Hockey Madhya Pradesh and Hockey Odisha played a high octane match to pull off a 2-2 draw in their pool-A game.

Hockey Odisha took the lead in the 34th minute through Dipti Lakra, while Hockey Madhya Pradesh levelled the scores in the 44th minute as Karishma Singh netted the goal. In the 51st minute, Narender Kaur put Madhya Pradesh ahead, but Odisha managed to score the equalizer as Rinki Kujur netted one in the 58th minute. Sports Authority of India registered a comprehensive 7-0 victory over Hockey Rajasthan in their pool-B game. Hockey Rajasthan and Sports Authority of India were neck and neck in the first quarter, but once Sports Authority of India clinched their first goal in the second quarter, they took complete control of the match. Sonia (36th, 41st), Binita Tirkey (17th), Vartika Rawat (18th), Dung Dung Betan (36th), Pramila Soreng (54th) and Tanya (59th) netted goals for Sports Authority of India.

Hockey Maharashtra registered a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Uttar Pradesh Hockey in pool-C in the last match of the day. Hockey Maharashtra stayed in complete control of the game by scoring goals at regular intervals. Aishwarya Chavan (14th, 30th), Ankita Sapate (28th), Manashri Narendra Shedage (34th), Reeta (46th) and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (46′) scored for Maharashtra. Archana Bhardwaj (56th) scored the only goal for Uttar Pradesh Hockey. The other matches between Hockey Bhopal and Hockey HIM, and Hockey Haryana and Hockey Gangpur- Odisha were forfeited.
