FIH wants CoA to hold Hockey India elections soon
The international hockey federation (FIH) will write to the Committee of Administrators governing Hockey India, asking it to conduct elections and avoid “jeopardising” the men’s World Cup to be held in Odisha in January next year. The FIH’s executive board met in Spain yesterday, on the sidelines of the Women’s World Cup.

Indian Grandmaster Aravindh Chithambaram emerged the winner in the 41st Villa De Benasque International Chess Open after edging Armenia’s Robert Hovhannisyan and compatriot Raunak Sadhwani on the basis of the tie-break score here. Sadhwani finished third.

Karan enters 2nd round of Fencing World C’ships
India’s Karan Singh registered an upset win over Mao Kokubo of Japan in the men’s sabre event to enter the second round at the Fencing World Championships. The 23-year-old, who is seeded 61st, beat the 14th-seeded Kokubo 15-11. Karan will next face defending champion and world No. 4 Oh Sanguk of South Korea. In the women’s epee event, Tanishka Khatri lost 14-15 to Dominican Republic’s Violeta Peguero 14-15 in the first round.

Bayern’s Lewandowski set to join Barca
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is set to join Barcelona after the two clubs reached an agreement in principle on the transfer, the clubs said. The 33-year-old has 12 months remaining on his Bayern contract. He was expected to sign a three-year deal with Barca. Meanwhile, Chelsea have completed the signing of Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli on a four-year contract.
