Conflict of interest not raised at AGM

New Delhi, December 24

Former India captain and current cricket board (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly’s conflict of interest situation was not discussed at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ahmedabad today. It was expected that the BCCI or Ganguly would issue an internal clarification on Ganguly endorsing at least two companies that are competitors of BCCI’s sponsors, even as the matter was not on the agenda.

“Not a single question was asked and contrary to a media report, it was never a topic of discussion,” a state unit member said. The official said within the BCCI, Ganguly was in the clear due to a precedent: When the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal broke in 2013, then BCCI president N Srinivasan, whose son-in-law was implicated in the scandal, was not questioned during BCCI meetings. “That issue was way more grave,” said an official, who attended the AGM.

Ganguly endorses fantasy gaming company My11Circle and Classplus, both of which are competitors of two major sponsors of the BCCI. The former Indian captain is also associated with a company that owns Delhi Capitals.
