DC eyeing triple treat against Giants

Gujarat Giants might be at the foot of the Women’s Premier League table but Delhi Capitals’ Jess Jonassen says they can’t take them lightly despite Gujarat finding it hard to get their act together.

Delhi face Gujarat as they look to wrap up their Bengaluru leg with a third consecutive win. Having lost to defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opener, Delhi have registered back-to-back wins over UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bangalore, respectively.
“Even though Gujarat haven’t won a game yet, they are not to be taken lightly. They have some incredibly talented players. I know a few of them being my teammates in Australia, and I know what they are capable of. For us, we are looking to go three on the trot before we head off to Delhi,” the 31-year-old said.
Jonassen also reflected on her performance against RCB, wherein she shined with a 16-ball 36 with the bat and ransacked three wickets for 21 runs.
“I got a few balls in my area and was able to find boundaries while batting. And, it’s always nice to get a few wickets. They had to attack and maintain that run rate which was challenging, and we knew we had the quality of players,” she said.
Still hoping
Meanwhile, Gujarat will be keen to arrest the slide. Their chances of making the knockouts getting slimmer with each defeat, head coach Michael Klinger believes his side is “still in it”.
“It’s not the start we would have liked coming into the tournament. We were pretty confident of starting well after a good training camp but that hasn’t happened,” he said after their six-wicket loss to Warriorz.
“You don’t want to come into a tournament and start with three losses. We have to deal with it. We have got five games to go and need to win at least four to try and get to the finals. We are still in it but have got some work to do,” he added. — Agencies
