Dubai, September 22
Delhi Capitals rode on a brilliant fast bowling performance from their South African duo Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets as they took a giant leap towards Indian Premier League play-offs on Wednesday.
Capitals produced top-notch performance in their first match of the second phase of this year’s IPL to eke out the easy win in 17.5 overs in their pursuit of a modest 135-run target.
Last edition’s runners-up Delhi now have 14 points from nine games while SRH with two points are all but out of the competition.
Nortje and Rabada were terrific with the ball as they extracted extra bounce and pace from the wicket to dismantle the SRH top-order.
In the chase, Shikhar Dhawan gave DC a solid start. After Prithvi Shaw (11) was caught by Kane Williamson off the bowlng of Khaleel Ahmed, Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer put on a steady 52-run partnership in eight overs to settle the nerves. After Dhawan fell to Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, Iyer and Pant saw Delhi chase down the target without any more trouble.
“Very happy with this performance. We had a good first phase,” DC captain Rishab Pant said.
Brief scores: SRH 134/9 (Samad 28; Rabada 3/37, Nortje 2/12, Patel 2/21); DC 139/2 in 17.5 overs (Iyer 47*, Dhawan 42, Pant 35*). — PTI
