De Kock, Boult star in Indians’ 34-run win over Sunrisers
Sharjah, October 4
Quinton de Kock was back amongst the runs with a sizzling 39-ball 67 before the bowlers did a commendable job to power Mumbai Indians to a 34-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League here today.
The swashbuckling duo of Hardika Pandya (28) and Kieron Pollard (25 not out) scored at their usual brisk pace, but it was Krunal Pandya who propelled MI to 208/5 with 20 runs off four deliveries in the last over.
Pacers Sandeep Sharma and Siddarth Kaul took two wickets each for Sunrisers but were expensive, especially Kaul who leaked 64 runs in his first game of the season.
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan took a wicket and conceded just 22 runs in four overs.
The MI bowlers then did just enough to restrict SRH to 174/7.
Skipper David Warner (60 off 44 balls) kept Sunrisers in the hunt. Warner shared partnerships with Jonny Bairstow (25) and Manish Pandey (30), but the quick dismissals of Kane Williamson and Priyam Garg increased pressure on the captain. As Warner fell in the 16th over, with Sunrisers still needing over 60 runs, the chase was all but over.
For MI, there were two wickets apiece for Trent Boult (2/28), James Pattinson (2/29) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/41). — PTI
