New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the embodiment of a new India where family name does not make one’s destiny in a letter to the enigmatic former captain, who retired from international cricket last week. A thankful Dhoni shared the letter on his Twitter page on Thursday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a commendation letter to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, saying that “mere statistics are not enough” to assess the former captain’s impact on Indian cricket. Modi heaped praise on the talismanic Dhoni, who announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15. “…the name Mahendra Singh Dhoni will not be remembered merely for his career statistics or specific match-winning roles. Looking at you as just a sportsperson would be injustice. The correct way to assess your impact is as a phenomenon!” the PM wrote in the letter. “No matter what hairstyle you sported, your calm head remained the same in victory or defeat, which is a very important lesson for every youth,” the letter added.
