Durand Cup: Mohun Bagan, EB drawn in same group

New Delhi: Defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant and their arch-rivals East Bengal FC — the two finalists from the previous edition — have been drawn in the same group as the group stage draw for the upcoming Durand Cup 2024 was unveiled today. The tournament is scheduled to commence on July 27.

Residential sports wings trials on July 15-17

The Education Department will organise trials for residential sports wings running in various schools of Punjab from July 15 to 17. The selected players will get free accommodation, education, and a daily allowance in tune of Rs 200. Trials will be held for various sporting disciplines, including basketball, hockey, football, boxing, judo, kabaddi, shooting, swimming and weightlifting, across different age categories (U-14, U-17, and U-19).

Indian players will get an opportunity along with other Asian competitors to earn a direct entry into the junior French Open next year through the inaugural Roland-Garros Junior Series — a qualifying event to be held from October 16 to 20 in Tokyo. To make it to the Tokyo event, the players in the Asian region will first have to compete in the regional qualifying tournaments in Kazakhstan (August 5-9) and China (August 11-17). —Agencies
