Farah named as ambassador for Mumbai Marathon
Multiple Olympics and world champion Mo Farah was announced as the international event ambassador for the Mumbai Marathon, which will see a record-breaking 60,000 runners taking part on January 19. “I am thrilled to be the ambassador for the landmark 20th edition of the Mumbai Marathon,” Farah said.

Senthil, Maaya keep Indian flag flying at ITF J300 event
Senthil Kumar had to work hard to book his place in the boys’ semifinals of the ITF J300 event while Maaya Rajeshwaran advanced to the last-four when her opponent withdrew midway from her quarterfinal. Top seed Senthil, ranked as high as 36 in the world, beat compatriot Samarth Sahita 6-3 3-6 6-4. Maaya knocked out seventh seed Rada Zolotareva, who pulled out when the Indian was leading 6-3 1-0.

Prateek, Priyanka to lead Indian teams at Kho Kho WC
Prateek Waikar will captain the men’s team, while Priyanka Ingle will lead the women’s side as hosts India unveiled its squads for the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup. The tournament will be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium from January 13 to 19.

West Ham hire former Chelsea coach Potter
West Ham hired Graham Potter as the coach, a day after Julen Lopetegui was fired. Potter has been out of management since he was fired by Chelsea in 2023 after just seven months in the job at Stamford Bridge. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Rajasthan, Haryana enter quarters of Hazare Trophy
Rajasthan recorded their first win over Tamil Nadu in Vijay Hazare Trophy history to enter the quarterfinals. Opener Abhijeet Tomar (111) shared a 160-run stand with skipper Mahipal Lomror (60) to set the platform for Rajasthan’s 267 all out. Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy took a five-wicket haul. Tamil Nadu then fell for 248 all out. Pacer Aman Singh Shekhawat took 3/58. Haryana beat Bengal by 72 runs. Parth Vats (62) and Nishant Sindhu (64) struck half-centuries before taking couple of wickets each. Haryana scored 298/9. Mohammad Shami picked up three wickets. Bengal then folded for 226.
