Eleven women from Haryana and as many men from Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) moved into the semifinals of the Youth National Boxing Championships. The boxers from Haryana to reach the women’s semifinals are Tamanna (50kg), Kirti (81+kg), Bhawna Sharma (48kg), Anjali (52kg), Neeru Khatri (54kg), Prachi (60kg), Ravina (63kg), Priyanka (66kg), Lashu Yadav (70kg), Muskan (75kg) and Pranjal Yadav (81kg). Meanwhile, Chandigarh’s Parineeta Sheoran (48kg) and Loveleen Kaur (66kg) entered the semis. Chandigarh’s Rohit Chamoli (51kg) suffered a 0-5 defeat in the men’s section.

La Plagne (France)

Iniyan finishes second in chess tournament in France

India’s teenage Grandmaster P Iniyan finished second in the La Plagne International Open Chess Tournament here. The 19-year-old finished with seven points from nine rounds. He was tied with GM Vitaly Sivuk but the Ukrainian won the first prize on the basis of a better tie-break score. India’s Sayantan Das took the third place with 6.5 points. Iniyan remained unbeaten through the nine rounds, winning five games and drawing four.

Amandeep shoots 71 to improve to 32nd place

Indian golfer Amandeep Drall continued her steady run at the Estrella Damm Ladies Open as she carded a 1-under 71 to move up to T-32 after the third round of the Ladies European Tour event. Amandeep, who was tied-34th after the second day, is now 1-under 215 for three rounds. The only other Indian to make the cut, Vani Kapoor, is 3-over 219 after carding a 1-over 74. She is currently T-50th.

Atwal lies 46th midway through third round

India’s Arjun Atwal was 2-under through seven holes in Round 3 when play was suspended following extensive rain at the Barbasol Championship. Atwal was 7-under through 43 holes and lying tied-46th.

Shooters Arjun, Paarth enter 10m rifle final

India’s Arjun Babuta and Paarth Makhija qualified for the men’s 10m air rifle final at the ISSF Shooting World Cup here today. Babuta scored an impressive 630.5 in the 60-shot qualification stage to finish second in the 53-strong field. Makhija finished fifth with a score of 628.4. The third Indian shooter in the event, Shahu Tushar, shot 624.4 to finish 30th. Veteran Israeli shooter Sergey Richter topped the chart with a score of 631.6. The finals are scheduled for Monday. In the women’s 10m air rifle event, no Indian shooter could make the cut for the finals. The 21-year-old Mehuli Ghosh scored 628.7 to finish 11th, losing out on a qualifying spot by just 0.1 of a point. Ramita shot 627.4 to finish 17th while former world No. 1 Elavenil Valarivan finished 24th with a score 626.3.
