ICC inducts Kallis, Abbas, Sthalekar into Hall of Fame

Legendary South African all-rounder Jaques Kallis, Pakistan batting great Zaheer Abbas and Pune-born former Australian captain Lisa Sthalekar were today inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame in a virtual ceremony.
Among the finest all-rounders to play the game, Kallis represented South Africa in 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20Is between 1995 and 2014. The 44-year-old is Proteas’ highest run-getter in Tests and ODIs with 13,289 and 11,579 runs, respectively. He also picked up 292 and 273 wickets in Tests and ODIs, respectively, as a fast bowler.
Kallis is the fourth South African player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and Abbas the sixth from Pakistan. Sthalekar is the 27th from Australia and the ninth woman player in the list, which includes five from her country.
Abbas played 78 Tests and 62 ODIs for Pakistan, accumulating 5,062 and 2,572 runs, respectively. He averaged over 40 in both the formats. The 73-year-old is the only player from Asia to have scored at least a 100 First-Class hundreds and the first one to score three successive ODI hundreds.

Kohli starts workout in his Dubai room
Dubai: Virat Kohli did not waste any time after reaching Dubai, getting down to his regular gym routine. A day after landing in Dubai for the 13th edition of the IPL, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and India captain decided not to waste any time and got started his physical training inside his hotel room. RCB took to Twitter to share Kohli’s photograph with the caption: “No days off for Captain Kohli!”
Yesterday South African cricketers AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and Chris Morris joined up with the RCB squad in Dubai. “I am very excited, very happy to be here. Travelling was bit different to normal but we have made it here with my South African friends and we are very happy to be back in the RCB family. I am looking forward to my Covid-19 test,” de Villiers said on arrival.
“It’s going to be interesting to play in the heat. We got here like 3 in the morning and it was steaming outside. Looking forward to what’s it going to be like in a few weeks,” said Steyn.
The RCB squad, mostly Indian players, reached Dubai on Friday well ahead of the tournament, scheduled to begin on September 19. — TNS, agencies
