Punjab made rapid strides towards winning their opening Group A Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan today, reducing the home team to 157/8 at stumps on Day 3. Rajasthan lead by 56 runs with only two wickets remaining.

Medium-pacer Sanvir Singh picked up three for 28 while Gurkeerat Mann had figures of 2/9 off four overs to send Rajasthan to the brink of a massive defeat. For Rajasthan, Mahipal Lomror was the only batsman to pass 30, scoring 43 before being bowled by the teenaged Ashwani Kumar, playing his first First-Class match. Earlier, another debutant, Anmol Malhotra, made a fine 76 at No. 8 on the batting slot to extend Punjab’s first innings to 358.

Haryana on top vs Maharashtra

Rohtak: Maharashtra were staring at a huge defeat against Haryana in their Group C match, reduced to 61/5 in their second innings after being asked to follow on. Maharashtra still trail by 93 runs with five wickets remaining.

Maharashtra, bowled out for 247 in reply to Haryana’s 401 in the first innings, had a terrible start in the second innings when Swapnil Gugale and Chirag Khurana fell in the first over, dismissed by Harshal Patel. Captain Naushad Shaikh tried to steady the innings but he could not last long, bowled by Ashish Hooda for 27. Haryana would expect to wrap up the match early on the fourth day tomorrow.

Saurashtra beat HP

Dharamsala: Saurashtra completed what proved to be a comfortable win, with five wickets intact, against Himachal Pradesh in their Group B match. Chasing a target of 162 runs, Saurashtra resumed the inning at 96/3 in the morning and eventually reached 165, losing only two more wickets in the process.

The visitors needed only 17.5 overs to score 69 runs today. Prerak Mankad was the anchor of the innings, remaining unbeaten on 47 off 78 balls. India star Cheteshwar Pujara, who came in at No. 6, recorded a second failure of the match, dismissed by Pankaj Jaiswal for 14 runs.

J&K crush Uttarakhand

Dehradun: Jammu and Kashmir scored a massive 253-run victory over Uttarakhand in their Group C match as hosts Uttarakhand, chasing 403 for victory, were dismissed for 149 in their second innings.

For the winners, Ram Dayal picked up five wickets for 56 runs, to complete a match haul of nine wickets for 86 runs to be named the player of the match. After J&K made 182 in their first innings, Uttarakhand were bowled out for 84 in the first innings. J&K made 304 in the second innings, with Fazil Rashid top-scoring with an unbeaten 73, while Ram Dayal contributed 41 off 56 balls. — TNS
