India U-17 women’s football team draws with Romania

The Indian U-17 women’s football team played out a 3-3 draw against Romania in their friendly match in Turkler, Turkey. Mariyammal Balamurugan (40th, 57th) scored a brace while Sumati Kumari (63rd) struck the third goal for India. Borodi Adina (45th, 83rd) and Mirea Roxana (78th) scored for Romania. The two teams will face each other for their second friendly match on Wednesday.

Punjab Police edge past Gokulam

Punjab Police, Jalandhar, registered a 1-0 win over Kerala’s Gokulam Club in the club category of the 58th Principal Harbhajan Memorial All India Football Tournament in Mahilpur today. Jagdeep Singh scored in the 42nd minute. On Saturday, Football Academy, Mahilpur, registered a 1-0 win over Government Senior Secondary School, Mahilpur, in the boys’ U-17 category. Shivraj netted the goal in the 49th minute. In the college category, Principal Harbhajan Singh Football Academy, Mahilpur, went down 0-3 against Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khiala. Gurpreet Singh (61st, 80th, 82nd minutes) scored a hat-trick. In another match, Khalsa College, Mahilpur, defeated DAV College, Jalandhar, 2-0. Palwinder Singh and Prabhjot Singh scored the goals.

Mushfiqur back, Bangla drop Mahmudullah for Zim Test

Bangladesh have dropped Mahmudullah while senior batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who opted out of the tour of Pakistan this month, returned to the side for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe. Batsman Soumya Sarkar and fast bowlers Rubel Hossain and Al-Amin Hossain have also been axed from the side who suffered an innings defeat in the Rawalpindi Test. Fit-again spinner Mehidy Hasan and pace duo Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed returned to the 16-man squad.

Morgan hits 57 as England win series 2-1 vs SA

Captain Eoin Morgan (in pic) scored a brilliant unbeaten 57 from 22 balls as England chased down a massive victory target of 223 to win the third T20I against South Africa and secure a 2-1 series triumph. South Africa won the toss and posted 222/6 in their 20 overs, but Man of the Match Morgan crashed seven sixes in a 21-ball half-century to equal his own England record for the fastest fifty in T20 cricket. The visitors reached 226/5 with five deliveries to spare, the ball sailing through the Highveld air as 28 sixes were hit in the match, 15 by England. South Africa won the first match by one run and England claimed the second by two runs in a tight series.
