The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Monday constituted a five-member ad hoc committee to oversee the affairs of boxing in the country after the national federation failed to hold elections on time. The IOA also asked the ad hoc panel, to be headed by former Athletics Federation of India (AFI) treasurer Madhukant Pathak, to hold Boxing Federation of India (BFI) elections at the earliest. “As per the governing norms, elections to BFI were to be conducted on or before 02 February 2025,” IOA president PT Usha wrote in an office order. The other members of the ad hoc panel are Rajesh Bhandari (vice-chairman), DP Bhatt, boxer Shiva Thapa and Virendra Singh Thakur.

12-member team for Shotgun World Cup announced

A 12-member Indian squad for the upcoming ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus, was on Monday announced by the National Rifle Association of India. The tournament is scheduled between May 3 and 12. As per the national selection policy, shooters ranked 4-6 in India have been selected. Tokyo Olympian Kynan Chenai will lead the men’s trap trio, while Paris Olympian Rajeshwari Kumari headlines the women’s trap competition. India’s most decorated men’s skeet exponent Mairaj Ahmad Khan will line up for yet another World Cup assignment while Maheshwari Chauhan finds a place in the women’s skeet event.

Veer finishes 67th as Kruyswijk wins Kenya Open

India’s Veer Ahlawat closed the week with a fine 3-under that included an eagle, his second of the week, but he still finished only 67th at the Kenya Open. His 68 on the final day was his best card of the week. South African Jacques Kruyswijk claimed his maiden DP World Tour title after an impressive display. He won by two shots.

Rajasthan United give Real Kashmir a reality test

Rajasthan United kept up their upward charge through the I-League table with a 4-0 win over Real Kashmir in an emphatic performance. The game was decided in the first 32 minutes in which the Desert Warriors scored three goals. Alain Oyarzun (13th), Maicol Cabrera (14th, 32nd) and Gautam Virwani (90th+4th) were on target for the home team. Rajasthan United took their tally to 24 points and rose to fourth place. Real Kashmir suffered a blow to their title chances as they remained on 26 points and slipped to third place, three points behind leaders Churchill Brothers.

Argentine Baez wins back-to-back Rio Open titles

Argentina’s Sebastian Baez retained his title at the Rio Open on Sunday by beating France’s Alexandre Muller 6-2 6-3 to claim his seventh ATP title. The 24-year-old Baez quickly found his rhythm, breaking Muller in the seventh game to take a 5-2 lead before closing out the first set to love. Despite Muller’s best efforts in the second set, where he took a 3-2 lead and put the South American under pressure, Baez rallied and wrapped up the contest, hitting 26 winners and making just 23 unforced errors.
