ISSF World Cup: Sawant-Rajput miss out on bronze

Tejaswini Sawant and Sanjeev Rajput ended fifth in the 50m rifle 3 positions mixed team event, missing the bronze medal match by a whisker as India endured a medal-less day at the ISSF shooting World Cup here today. Sawant and Rajput combined for a score of 581 in qualification part two with 28 inner 10s, one less than fourth-placed Hungarian team of Eszter Meszaros and Istvan Peni, who made the cut for the bronze medal match. In part one of qualification, the Indian pair of Anjum Moudgil and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was eliminated with a ninth-place finish behind Sawant and Rajput. Both the pairs shot an identical score of 873 but Sawant and Rajput advanced due to higher inner 10s count of 45 as against 43 by Moudgil and Tomar.

Aditi Ashok qualifies for 2nd successive Olympics
India’s top ranked woman golfer Aditi Ashok will take part in her second successive Olympic Games in Tokyo next month after finishing 45th in the qualifying list released today. Aditi thus joined Anirban Lahiri and Udayan Mane to make it a team of three to Tokyo. Even as Aditi came through in the first list, Diksha Dagar figures in the second list as the fifth reserve in case of some specific pullouts.

Injured Halep, Wawrinka out of Tokyo Games
World No. 3 Romanian Simona Halep and three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland have become the latest big-name tennis players to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics due to injury problems. While Halep has a calf injury, Wawrinka underwent a foot surgery. Agencies
