Jalandhar lad Jai Sud was declared the best rider in the young riders’ category at the prestigious Delhi Horse Show. The 19-year-old won six medals in the event — four gold, one silver and one bronze — in various events including Dressage and Puissance (individual), Dressage and Show Jumping (team). He won the silver in Fault-and-Out and bronze in Dressage.

Sud, an alumnus of Ajmer’s Mayo College, has ambitions of winning medals at events such as the Asian Games and even the Olympics. “Winning medals in top championships such as the Delhi Horse Show provides a platform to qualify for the Asian Games and Olympics trials,” said Sud. “I am still a teenager and have much to learn.”

Sud, who has been riding since 2012, trains under coach Gulab Singh in Delhi and possesses three horses, which his father got him from the Netherlands and Germany. Last year, Sud had won a gold medal in the Junior National Equestrian Championship. Sud has represented his school in national and international events, and his younger brother is following in his footsteps.
