Jasprit Bumrah reaches career-high ICC Test bowling ranking; Travis Head climbs in batting list
India's pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, has cemented his position at the top of the ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings following his outstanding performance in Brisbane. Bumrah's nine-wicket haul for 94 runs in the rain-affected third Test against Australia earned him 14 additional rating points, bringing his total to a career-best 904.
With this rating, Bumrah has matched the record set by former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in December 2016, making him the joint highest-rated Indian Test bowler in history. With one more Test left in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne, Bumrah could surpass Ashwin’s record.
South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood currently occupy second and third spots, but trail Bumrah by a significant margin.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Travis Head has been on a remarkable rise, climbing to fourth in the ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings. Head's brilliant 152 at the Gabba, following his century in Adelaide, has moved him up one place to 825 points. Steve Smith’s century in the third Test also boosted his ranking, bringing him back into the top ten. On the Indian side, KL Rahul's resilient first-innings performance lifted him ten places to 40th.
Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, has returned to the top 10 all-rounders following his solid performance in the third Test, with four wickets and 42 runs.
In the ODI format, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen has surged to fifth in the Men’s ODI Batting Rankings after scoring three half-centuries in the home series against Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan's Saim Ayub, who scored two centuries in the series, made a meteoric rise from 70th to joint-23rd in the batting rankings and jumped 113 spots to 42nd in the all-rounder category.
Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai also saw significant progress, moving up 43 places to 58th in the ODI Bowling Rankings after taking six wickets in the series against Zimbabwe. He also rose five places to secure third in the ODI All-Rounder Rankings.
In the T20I rankings, Bangladesh's Mahedi Hasan surged 13 spots to enter the top 10, now ranked 10th in bowling, following his success in the West Indies T20I series. Teammates Rishad Hossain and Hasan Mahmud also made notable climbs, strengthening Bangladesh's presence in the rankings.
