A Harry Kane penalty and a second-half goal by Thomas Muller were enough to give Bayern Munich all three points in the Bundesliga as they beat Freiburg 2-0 and new head coach Vincent Kompany continued his winning start.

The victory marked Kompany’s first win at home, with Bayern having won 3-2 at VfL Wolfsburg in their Bundesliga opener last weekend.

German champions Bayer Leverkusen lost a Bundesliga game for the first time in 15 months when Lois Openda scored twice in a 3-2 comeback win for Leipzig. Leverkusen lost to a German opponent for the first time since May 2023 after 35 Bundesliga games unbeaten.

“It’s hard, it’s bitter,” coach Xabi Alonso said. “I don’t think we deserved to lose.” — Agencies
