Kapil Dev discharged from hospital
New Delhi, October 25
Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, who underwent an angioplasty following a heart attack two days ago, was today discharged from hospital. “Mr Kapil Dev got discharged today afternoon. He’s doing fine and can resume his regular daily activity soon. He’ll be under regular follow-up consultation with Dr Atul Mathur,” a statement from Fortis Escorts Heart Institute said.
The 61-year-old cricketing great was hospitalised in the wee hours on Friday after he complained of chest pain and it was later disclosed that he had suffered a heart attack. The same day a coronary angioplasty, a procedure to open blocked arteries, was performed on him by Dr Mathur.
His one-time protégé and former India teammate Chetan Sharma today shared a photo of him with Dr Mathur, with this caption: “Dr Atul Mathur did Kapil paji angioplasty. He is fine and discharged. Kapil Dev on time of discharge from hospital.”
Regarded as India’s greatest ever cricketer by many experts, Kapil was the captain of India’s World Cup-winning team in 1983 and is the only player ever to take over 400 wickets and score over 5,000 runs in Test cricket. — TNS
