Kaul, Baltej rock Gujarat on Day 1

Punjab pacers Siddarth Kaul (4/57) and Baltej Singh (4/62) had Gujarat on the ropes at 119/5 on the first day of their Group A Ranji Trophy match, but No. 3 Bhargav Merai (130) resisted and combined with the tail to salvage the innings. At stumps, Gujarat were 277/9, with the No. 10 and 11 batsmen at the crease. Merai added 95 for the sixth wicket with Piyush Chawla, who made 42.

Dharamsala: Akash Vashist’s 86 helped Himachal Pradesh post 314/5 against Baroda on Day 1 of their Group A Ranji Trophy match. Rishi Dhawan, who usually bats in the middle order, opened the innings with Prashant Chopra in the absence of regular opener Priyanshu Khanduri.
