Chandigarh, February 9
A fine performance by Kumari Shibi (4/9) and Rajni Devi (3/12) helped Chandigarh to defeat Mizoram by seven wickets in the Women’s U-23 One Day Trophy match, at Ravenshaw University Ground in Cuttack today.
Chandigarh skipper Amanjot Kaur won the toss and put Mizoram to work. The side was bowled out for 59 runs in 30.5 overs.
Mizoram openers Sandhya Kumari and Omomi added a little to the total. They raised a 16-run partnership before Kumari claimed Omomi (5). Thereafter, Sandhya and MM Jadhav hit the bulk of runs.
They raised a 30-run partnership, the highest partnership of Mizoram innings. The duo was looking forward for an extended innings but MM Jadhav was run out by Suman for 21 off 28 balls, with three boundaries. After this wicket, things turned bad to worse for Mizoram as the middle-order bled profusely and most were blown away for zero runs — the end of innings saw Mizoram garner 59/10 in 30.5 overs. The collapse of Mizoram innings started as both Kumari and Rajni swung into action. Rajni accounted for Mizoram skipper Manizha Mumtaz (0) and Lal Ram Zauvi (0) for a naught. She also accounted for Mizoram’s main scorer Sandhya for 26 off 91 balls, with three boundaries. Kumari meanwhile claimed wickets of Lalro Puii, Havzel and Sangsangi—all for a duck. Chandigarh skipper Amanjot also contributed as she claimed Puipuii (0).
In reply, the Chandigarh eves too hard a shaky start as opener Parushi Prabhakar was out for a duck off Manizha Mumtaz. Monika Pandey and Parul Saini thereafter held the fort to raise a 40-run partnership. Puipuii broke the partnership as she claimed Monika for 28 off 33 balls, with four boundaries. MM Jadhav claimed next wicket when Parul (14) was caught by Manizha on the team’s total of 57 runs. With just formality left, skipper Amanjot Kaur (12) ensured to achieve the total without any further losses.
