Lahiri out, Hatton leads at Palmer Invitational

Anirban Lahiri stumbled with two double-bogeys as he crashed out of the Arnold Palmer Invitational tournament in the second round. Lahiri carded five birdies but also had three bogeys and two double-bogeys for a second straight 2-over 74 and a total of a 4-over 148. The cut fell at 3-over. Lahiri hit 10 of 18 greens in regulation and would have safely made the cut but for poor finishing. Starting from the 10th, he seemed to be fine as he birdied the 11th, 13th and 16th and had a bogey on the 14th to be 2-under. He had a double-bogey on the par-3 17th, when he went into water, but a birdie on the 18th saw him turn in 1-under.

On the second nine, Lahiri bogeyed the 4th and 7th, birdied the 6th and double-bogeyed 8th as he went into water off the second shot. The loss of three shots in two holes spelt disaster.

Hatton shoots 69

Tyrrell Hatton survived a tough test on the back nine for a 69 and a share of the halfway lead with Sung Kang (69-68) at 7-under. Hatton’s short game was good, helping him get into the lead. Kang birdied four of his last seven holes for a 68. Danny Lee is third at 6-under.

Chawrasia shoots 69, gets into top-10

Doha: SSP Chawrasia added a 3-under 69 to get to 9-under and inside the top-10 after 54 holes in the Qatar Masters golf tournament. Chawrasia had four birdies on front and one more on the back and a bogey on either side.

Jorge Campillo carded a third round 67 to take a one shot lead into the final day.

Jeev, Sandhu miss cut

Shah Alam (Malaysia): Aman Raj emerged as the best-placed Indian at tied-25th as the Malaysia Open was reduced to 54 holes following several weather delays. Five Indians — Aman Raj (71-69), S Chikkarangappa (68-73), Shiv Kapur (71-70), Rahil Gangjee (69-72) and Rashid Khan (76-67) — made the cut.

Gaganjeet Bhullar (70-74), Ajeetesh Sandhu (71-74), Jeev Milkha Singh (70-77) and Viraj Madappa (76-71) missed the cut. — PTI
