The moment of truth has finally arrived for Indian weightlifter Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu (26). The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) today dropped the doping charge against her, accredited to the non-conformities in the handling of the sample, but the decision isn’t enough as the two-time Commonwealth Games (CWG) gold medallist has also demanded an apology and compensation for the mental trauma she endured all along.

The Manipur lifter was informed about the final verdict via an e-mail after the IWF got to the decision based on the recommendations of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

She said: “I am happy that I am finally cleared of the doping charges, but I am also infuriated by the administrative goof-up in the sample’s handling. “Who will take the responsibility for the mistakes that happened at every possible level?” she added. — TNS
