New Delhi, January 30

Talking to the reporters at the end of the day’s play on Wednesday, Karnataka coach Yere Goud was adamant that there was still an outside chance for the visitors to force a win.

The Ranji Trophy tie was severely hampered by weather as only 72 overs could be bowled in the first two days. Karnataka ended Day 3 with a slender lead of 17 runs. And as things stood, a draw with three points for taking the first innings lead seemed the likely outcome of this match.

Instead, Karnataka garnered an improbable win and collected a bonus point for completing the win without losing any wicket.

Earlier, Karnataka only added 12 more runs to their overnight score of 199 to end their first innings at 211, thanks to a gutsy innings of 62 by their wicketkeeper-batsman Srinivas Sharath.

And Karnataka bowlers went on a demolition job, dismissing Railways for 72 in the second innings. Set a target of 51, Karantaka openers Devdutt Padikkal and Rohan Kadam completed the formalities in only 8.2 overs.

“Wicket was keeping low for the fast bowlers so we thought we would attack the stumps,” said Ronit More, who was adjudged the Man of Match for his figured of 6/32.

Brief scores: Railways 182 & 72 all out in 30 overs (M Devdhar 38; R More 6/32) vs Karnataka 211 in 71.1 overs (S Sharath 62; A Mishra 5/70) & 51/0 in 8.2 overs
