Mumbai, April 15

Chris Morris of Rajasthan Royals hit four sixers off the final 10 balls he faced, including two in the final over, to power his team to a three-wicket win over Delhi Capitals in the seventh match of IPL-14 here tonight.

Reduced to 90/6 in 14.5 overs, Rajasthan were seemingly out of the match as they needed 58 more runs off 31 balls, with only four wickets in hand. But No. 8 Morris turned the match around with an 18-ball 36, with no four and four sixers.

After 18 overs, Rajasthan were 121/7, and Morris had started rather slowly, making seven of eight balls. However, he struck Kagiso Rabada’s first ball of the 19th over for a six over midwicket, and got another six off the fifth ball. With the team needing 12 off the final over, Morris got 2, 6, 0 and 6 off four balls from Tom Curran to send his team dugout into ecstasy.

Before Morris, another South African, David Miller, had resuscitated the chase with 62 off 43 balls, after the top-4 had failed to reach double figures, and the team was in dire straits at 42/5.

Jaydev’s day

Royals were in a strong position at the halfway stage after restricting Delhi to 147/8. A brilliant three-wicket burst from pacer Jaydev Unadkat — in which he dismissed Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane — triggered DC’s top-order collapse from which they never recovered fully. DC captain Rishabh Pant’s 32-ball 51, studded with nine fours, was not enough as the team could only post a modest total after being put in to bat. — TNS, agencies

Brief scores: DC: 147/8 (Pant 51; Unadkat 3/15); RR: 150/7 in 19.4 overs (Miller 62, Morris 36*; Avesh 3/32)
