Nikhil of DAV Senior Secondary School (Sector 8) claimed 2km gold medal in the boys’ U-16 category during the Chandigarh State Cross Country Championship, organised by Chandigarh Athletics Association, at the Sector 7 Sports Complex here today.

Vishal Kumar of DAV Senior Secondary School (Sector 8) claimed the second position, while Harbin Singh of St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School (Sector 44) finished third. In the Kajal of Guru Gobind Singh College (Sector 26) claimed the girls’ U-16 category gold medal in the same event, while Aman of Government Model Senior Secondary School (Sector 19) and Amandeep Kaurof Government Model High School (Sector 43) claimed the second and third positions, respectively.

In the boys’ U-18 category, Devashish Patwal of Kendriya Vidyala School (Sector 47) claimed the 6km gold medal. Akashdeep Singh of Shishu Niketan School (Sector 22) claimed silver medal and Nitish Gupta of Government Model Senior Secondary School (Sector 35) finished her campaign with the bronze medal. Naina of Guru Gobind Singh College claimed the 6km gold medal in the U-20 years age group. Anjali of Athletic Club (Sector 30) and Sneha of Guru Gobind Singh College claimed second and third position, respectively. In boys’ U-20 category, Sahil Sagar of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College (Sector 26) won the gold medal in the 8km event. Suraj Guptaof Mauli Jagran Club finished second and Sahul of Post Graduate Government College (Sector 11) claimed third position.

In the men’s 10km category, Deepak Kumar of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College claimed the top podium position. Sahil Gill of Sector 7 Sports Complex claimed the second position and Varinder Singh of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College finished at third spot. In women’s event, Chanda of Post Graduate Government College won the top spot. Usha of Sector 7 Sports Complex and Suman of Government Model High School (Sector 26) claimed the second and third position, respectively. SK Joshi, former district sports officer (Sports Department) awarded the winners. Around 200 athletes participated in this Cross Country State Championship.
