The long-awaited election for the post of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president will finally happen. NRAI’s Annual General Body (AGM) will be held on September 14 in the Constitution Club where the new chief will be elected.
The vacancy occurred after the incumbent Raninder Singh resigned from the post after the Sports Ministry reckoned that his three terms got over in March last year. Since then senior vice-president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo has been acting as the new chief. Deo is the early favourite to take over from Raninder.
As per the election circular being circulated by Returning Officer Justice Anil Dev Singh (retd), the new president will only be in office till September 2025, when the term of the executive which was elected in 2021 gets over. The nomination process will start on August 24 and will run till August 25.
The electoral college for this one-off election remains the same that elected office bearers in 2021 and no ex-officio or life members will be allowed to vote.
