Pacers will have to be more careful than others on resumption: Pathan
New Delhi: Former India pacer Irfan Pathan feels that fast bowlers will take at least four to six weeks to get back into rhythm when they return to action after the coronavirus hiatus. Most of the cricketers in India haven’t been able to practise since March due to the countrywide lockdown.
“To be honest, I am really worried about the fast bowlers,” Pathan said on ‘Cricket Connected’. “Going forward, they might need four to six weeks to get going themselves. It’s a tough job and if you are bowling 140-150 kmph, running about 25 yards to bowl one ball at a time and then keep bowling for a few overs. Your body gets stiff, injury management will be key as well,” he added.
Bumrah is hardest to face among India bowlers: Labuschagne
New Delhi: He has played just one Test against India but Australian Marnus Labuschagne is quite confident of “staying a step ahead” of India’s world-class attack come December. The eagerly-awaited four-match Test series in December will be an acid test for the fast-rising batsman.
“They are all good bowlers but it is hard to get past Jasprit Bumrah,” the 26-year-old told PTI in an exclusive interview from Brisbane. “He has the ability to consistently bowl around 140 kmph and swing the ball when conditions are suitable. He is also able to angle the ball back in at the stumps. Jasprit is probably the leader of that attack,” said Labuschagne, who averages over 63 after 14 Tests with four hundreds and seven half-centuries.
Sachin Tendulkar praised Labuschagne’s technique and temperament after watching him in the Ashes last year. “For someone of his calibre speaking highly of me is an amazing feeling. I haven’t yet met him in person. We missed each other on a few occasion. Can’t wait to meet him as there is a lot to learn from a player of his stature,” said Labuschagne.
AB’s Eagles clinch gold
AB de Villiers once again showed why he is regarded as one of the most destructive batsmen ever as his quickfire innings helped AB’s Eagles win the 3TC Solidarity Cup gold medal in Centurian on Saturday. The other teams were KG’s Kingfishers and Quinny’s Kites. AFP
