Tennis legend Leander Paes will be showcasing four of his treasured trophies when the 18-time Grand Slam champion is inducted into the prestigious International Tennis Hall of Fame later this month. The Class of 2024 also has another Indian inductee in Vijay Amritraj, who will be showcasing his Padma Shri which he received in 1983.

Men’s hockey team leaves for Switzerland
The Indian men’s hockey team today departed for renowned adventurer Mike Horn’s base in Switzerland which will be followed by a training camp in the Netherlands ahead of the Paris Games. The three-day camp in Switzerland is designed to instill mental toughness and from there the Indian team will head to the Netherlands to play practice matches before finally heading to the French capital.

Rozario, Moosa among Indians for coach’s position
Former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal coach Stanley Rozario and current NorthEast United assistant coach Nausad Moosa are among a host of Indians who have applied for the national team head coach’s position, left vacant after the sacking of Igor Stimac. Altogether, 291 applications were received by the All India Football Federation from all over the world. Antonio Lopez Habas, who guided Mohun Bagan Super Giant to 2023-24 ISL League Shield, has also applied.

Current athletes much more confident, says Bindra
Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra feels the current generation of athletes is much more confident than the “chicken-hearted” players of his time but advised the Paris-bound Indian contingent to not make the mistake of thinking about either past or future. “I came from a generation that was chicken-hearted, in nature. These athletes are much more confident, have self belief. They want to go and win and not just win but win gold medals and it comes out very clearly. That is a reflection of our society,” said Bindra. Agencies
