Bhubaneswar, February 4

The Indian women’s hockey team’s penalty corner woes continued as it fell to its second consecutive defeat at the FIH Pro League, losing 1-3 to Netherlands.

Navneet Kaur was the goal-scorer for India, who were guilty of squandering as many as six penalty corners. Yibbi Jansen (3rd and 34th minutes) and Fay van der Elst (21st) etched their name on the scoresheet for Netherlands. India had lost to China on Saturday. China beat Australia 3-0 earlier today.

Dutch looking forward to tough battles

World No. 1 Netherlands are relishing the challenge of facing India and Australia in the men’s Pro League to prepare for the Paris Olympics, said skipper Thierry Brinkman.

Netherlands arrived here today. “The preparations have been going really well. We have done a great job in training sessions. We love to be in India and there is a good team spirit among all of us. We are excited for the campaign to begin,” Brinkman said. “We are curious about Australia, they could be tough opponents. Of course, facing India in front of their home crowd will be a challenge, especially in stadiums as vast as the ones in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela,” he added.
