Pune's Mahesh wins 67kg gold

Mahesh Asawale from Savitribai Phule University (Pune) bagged 67kg gold medal in the ongoing All India Inter-University Weightlifting Championship, at the Chandigarh University (Gharuan), today.

Simranjeet Singh from the host university won silver medal, while Hanuman Sagar from Gulbarga University (Karnataka) won bronze. Asawale lifted a total weight of 258kg to win the top honour, whereas Simranjeet lifted a total weight of 253kg to claim the second spot.

Sagar finished third by lifting a total weight of 244 kg.

In the All India Inter-University Best Physique Championship, P Prabhu from Thiruvalluvar University (Tamil Nadu) won the 75kg gold medal. D Mathan Krishnan from Dr MGR University (Chennai) bagged silver and Viraj from Manglore University finished his campaign by winning the bronze medal.

In the 80kg category, B Raghavendar from Madras University (Chennai) claimed the top podium position. L Dinesh of Anna University (Tamil Nadu) and Mohammed Ali of Osmania University (Hyderabad) claimed silver and bronze medal, respectively. V Vasudev from Anna University (Tamil Nadu) excelled to claim the 85kg gold medal. Ghanshyam W Mane from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (Maharashtra) and P Rajesh Kumar from Andhra University (Vishakhapatnam) won silver and bronze medal, respectively.
