Punjab University (Patiala) won both league matches of the men’s category during the opening day of the All India Inter University Rugby (Men) 7’s Championship, at the Panjab University, here today.

In their first outing, the Patiala outfit outplayed Mewar University (Rajasthan) 26-0, followed by another one-sided 19-0 win over Patliputra University (Patna). Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar) also won their both league matches. In the first match, the side registered a 19-7 win over Bangalore University, while in their second match, they defeated RTM Nagpur University 38-0. Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari University (Jalgaon) was awarded walk-over against Kurukshetra University, while University of Jammu defeated Rayalseema University Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh). Tamil Nadu Physical Education Sports University logged a 5-0 win over MG Kashi Vidyapith (Varanasi), while University of Kerala ousted University of Rajasthan 21-10 and defeated MATS University (Raipur) 24-0. University of Calicut also recorded a one-sided 5-0 win over Maharshi Dayanand University (Rohtak) and Lovely Professional University (Phagwara) outplayed Osmania University (Hyderabad) 41-0. The Phagwara outfit registered another win by defeating University of Calicut 22-0.

Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari University won their second match of the day by defeating Lucknow University (Uttar Pradesh) 10-5.

In the women’s category, the Patiala team got walk-over against Tamil Nadu Physical Education Sports University. Meanwhile, University of Kerala logged a 19-0 win over MATS University. University of Rajasthan was awarded walk-over against Manipal University (Jaipur), while Patliputra University defeated Bengaluru Central University 32-0. Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari University won 5-0 against MG Kashi Vidyapith (Varanasi), whereas RTM University defeated Mewar University 10-5. Lovely Professional University pulled off an easy 15-0 win over Shivaji University (Kolhapur). The teams of University of Jammu, Rayalseema University Kurnool (Uttar Pradesh), Bangalore University and Lucknow University were awarded walk-over.
