The Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Aruna Chaudhary congratulated boxer Simranjit Kaur for qualifying for the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

Simranjit is the only and first woman boxer from Punjab to be selected in the Indian team and will represent India at the Tokyo Olympics.

Sodhi said that Simranjit Kaur Bath has leap forward the valiant spirit of Punjabis in Indian boxing by securing a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics in the quarterfinals after defeating second seed Mongolian pugilist with unanimous verdict win 5-0 to storm into semifinals (60kg) of Asia/Oceania Qualifier. She also won the semi-final bout. The 24-year-old boxer, known as Simer Chakar, is from Chakar village in Ludhiana district. She started her boxing career in 2008 at Sher-e-Punjab Sports Academy and won bronze medal in the World Boxing Championship held in Delhi in 2018.
