Rijiju announces cash awards for SAG medallists
New Delhi: Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju today announced a cash reward of Rs 1.5 lakh for the 174 gold medallists of the South Asian Games. The silver and bronze winners will receive Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000, respectively.

Oz boxers to train in India before Olympics qualifiers
Indian boxers gearing up for the Olympics qualifiers in China will be training with their counterparts from Australia in Patiala from January 5 to 25, national men’s coach C A Kuttappa said. Australia accepted India’s invitation to train in India ahead of the qualifiers to be held from February 3 to 14 in Wuhan. “We had invited two-three nations and Australia have confirmed. We are expecting that the group will feature those who will be competing in the Olympic qualifiers,” Kuttappa said.

Asghar Afghan reappointed Afghanistan captain
The Afghanistan Cricket Board today re-appointed former captain Asghar Afghan as the skipper across all formats of the game. The decision comes seven months after Asghar was stripped from captaincy across formats. Afghanistan’s poor show in the ‘home series’ against West Indies may have prompted the authorities to call back Afghan. In April, two months before the ODI World Cup, ACB had named Rahmat Shah, Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan as replacements of Asghar in the Test, ODI and T20 teams, respectively.

Pakistan’s Aleem Dar will break Steve Bucknor’s record of most Test matches as an umpire in the first Test match between Australia and New Zealand, beginning in Perth tomorrow.
