Pattaya, December 22
India’s Ajeetesh Sandhu shot a 4-under 67 to end tied-11th as Jazz Janewattananond signed off from his 2019 Asian Tour season with a commanding 5-shot victory at the Thailand Masters here today. Sandhu finished at 14-under.
It also marked a barren year for Indian golf and this was the first time since 2001 that no Indian emerged winner on the international tour. The last two years have seen Indians win six titles each in 2017 and 2018.
Jyoti Randhawa (68) at tied-39th, SSP Chawrasia (70) at tied-48th, Aadil Bedi (68) at tied-54th, Arjun Atwal (76) at tied-60th and Viraj Madappa (73) at tied-73rd were the other Indians in the field.
For Janewattananond, 24, it was a second win in as many weeks as he closed with a 6-under 65. It was also his fourth win of the season. Janewattananond’s winning total of 23-under 261 meant that the Thai will break into the top-40 on the Official World Golf Ranking.
Scott ends drought
Melbourne: Home favourite Adam Scott ended a victory drought of nearly four years when he eased to a two-stroke win at the Australian PGA Championship. Overnight leader by a stroke, the former world No. 1 shot a 3-under 69 to finish with a 13-under total for his first win since the 2016 WGC-Cadillac Championship in Florida. — Agencies
