Indian shooters Divyansh Singh Panwar and Apurvi Chandela clinched a gold medal each in the Meyton Cup, a private tournament in Innsbruck, Austria. While Panwar won gold in the men’s 10m air rifle event with an effort of 249.7, Chandela bagged the top honours in the 10m air rifle women’s category with a score of 251.4. Deepak Kumar and Anjum Moudgil also bagged a bronze each in the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle events, respectively. Deepak shot 228, while Moudgil shot 229.

Indian men’s TT team ready for Olympics qualifiers
The Indian men’s table tennis squad is well placed to create history at the Olympics qualifiers beginning here tomorrow. Fifth-seeded India need a quarterfinal finish to seal qualification as a team for the Summer Games for the first time. The team comprises G Sathiyan (world No. 30), veteran Sharath Kamal (33), Harmeet Desai (86), Anthony Amalraj and Manav Thakkar. Nine qualifying spots are on offer at the ITTF organised event. A top-8 finish guarantees Olympics qualification while the last spot available will be fought among the teams that lose in the Round of 16.

East Bengal coach Menendez steps down
East Bengal head coach Alejandro Menendez today stepped down from his post citing “personal reasons” less than 48 hours after his team lost the Kolkata derby to arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the I-League. The Spaniard faced a lot of criticism after East Bengal had a hat-trick of defeats, especially the one against Mohun Bagan. East Bengal currently have eight points from seven matches. Mohun Bagan, on the other hand, lead the standings with 17 points from eight matches. “The head coach expressed his desire to relocate to his home country for personal reasons,” East Bengal stated in a release.

Yogeshwar, Deepa in reconstituted govt panel
Celebrated wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and Paralympian Deepa Malik were among the new inductees in the government’s All India Council of Sports (AICS), from which batting great Sachin Tendulkar and chess wizard Viswanathan Anand have been omitted for not being “active” enough. The tenure of AICS, formed in 2015 as an advisory body to the Sports Ministry, has been extended by three years. agencies
