Defending champions India beat minnows South Africa 3-0 to progress to the semifinals of the mixed team competition at the Commonwealth Games here today.

Ashwini Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy started the proceedings with a facile 21-9 21-11 win over Jarred Elliott and Deidre Jordaan. Lakshya Sen beat Caden Kakora 21-5 21-6 in men’s singles, before Aakarshi Kashyap beat Johanita Scholtz 21-11 21-16 in women’s singles. — PTI

Ghosal, Joshna in last-8

Leading squash players Saurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa entered the singles quarterfinals today. While Ghosal beat David Baillargeon 11-6 11-2 11-6 in men’s singles, Chinappa beat Kaitlyn Watts 11-8 9-11 11-4 11-6 in women’s singles.
