Udaipur, February 2
Sikh Regiment (Jalandhar) beat Air Force (Delhi) 2-0 in the final of the Mohan Kumar Mangalam Football tournament at Zavar Mines to win the title for the 10th time.
The winners created early chances to score but failed to put the finishing touches in the 10th and 18th minute. The two teams created attacks and Amritpal Singh of the Jalandhar outfit got a golden opportunity in the 40th minute but did not get success.
Amritpal finally scored in the 25th minute of the second half. Three minutes later, Air Force Delhi’s Rarey was shown the red card for a foul and they were reduced to 10 men. In the 40th minute, Jalandhar’s Gurvinder Singh scored the second and decisive goal.
The winners received a cheque worth Rs 1.5 lakh and the Air Force team received Rs 1 lakh. — TNS
