Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma overcame an early double bogey to card a 4-under 67 that placed him tied-15th at the Canary Islands Open here today. Sharma, who missed the cut in his last two events, started with a double bogey on the 10th hole, but five birdies in his next seven holes ensured it was a profitable day. Also finishing with decent cards were SSP Chawrasia (68) and Gaganjeet Bhullar (69), who were tied-24 and tied-36, respectively.

‘English counties offer to host IPL’
A group of English counties has offered to host the remainder of the IPL 2021 season in September this year, according to a report by cricket website espncricinfo.com. According to the report, three clubs — MCC (based at Lord’s, London), Surrey (based at The Oval, London) and Warwickshire (based at Edgbaston, Birmingham) — are part of the group who wrote to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), inviting them to make the offer to the BCCI.

Veda loses sister too to Covid after mother’s death
Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy, whose mother died of Covid-19 on April 23, suffered another bereavement when her elder sister passed away on Wednesday after being infected with the virus. Veda’s sister Vatsala Shivakumar, who was 42, had been admitted in a hospital in Chikmagalur for the last few days. She was reported to be recovering earlier this week, but her condition took a turn for the worse and she passed away on Wednesday evening.
