A wrestler named Sagar Kumar died of his wounds after a late night fracas at the Chhatrasal Stadium here. The Delhi Police has detained a suspect in relation with the crime, in which two other persons were injured.

As per the FIR registered in Model Town, the police received a PCR call around 1 am (Wednesday) after the three injured were rushed to a local hospital. The police, after initial investigations, revealed that Sagar and his friends were staying at a house reportedly owned by Sushil. The trio were asked to vacate the premises, which angered them. Sagar and his friends were then called to the Chhatrasal Stadium to sort out the issue, when heated arguments led to fisticuffs among the two groups.

Sushil, however, denied his involvement in the clash, saying neither he nor any of the wrestlers from the Chhatrasal Stadium were involved. “They came from the outside and we have already notified the police about the incident,” he said.

However, the FIR states that “Sushil and his people” were involved in the clash.

“…the accused violated the social distancing norms currently in place due to the curfew imposed because of Covid-19 outbreak. Instead, they came packed in cars and were involved in a fight,” the FIR reads.

“Initial investigations have revealed that the above mentioned persons were beaten up by Sushil Pehelwan and his friends who committed this crime in the Chhatrasal Stadium,” it added.

A double-barrelled gun and five live cartridges and two bamboo sticks have been recovered from the stadium.

Moreover, the FIR also mentioned the PCR call received after the incident. “Caller bol raha hai ki yahan pe firing hui hai. Do ladko ne firing ki hai (The caller is saying that two persons have fired shots inside the stadium),” the PCR record stated.
