Two-time Olympics medallist PV Sindhu rallied from a game down to eke out a hard-fought win over Thailand’s Supanida Katethong to enter the semifinals of the Syed Modi International today.

The top-seeded Indian beat her Thai rival, seeded sixth, 11-21 21-12 21-17 in a quarterfinals match that lasted one hour and five minutes.

The other women’s semifinal will be an all-Indian affair between Malvika Bansod and Anupama Upadhyaya, both of whom winning their respective quarterfinal matches.

In the men’s singles, however, HS Prannoy crashed out with a straight-game defeat to Arnaud Merkle of France in the quarters. The fifth-seeded Indian lost 19-21 16-21 in 59 minutes. Mithun Manjunath, however, advanced by beating Sergey Sirant of Russia 11-21 21-12 21-18. — PTI
