This time, Real Madrid didn’t need to rely solely on Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior to keep winning in the Spanish league.

Benzema scored twice to reach 200 league goals but Madrid also got a hat-trick from Marco Asensio on their way to a comfortable 6-1 win over Mallorca at home on Wednesday, a result that extended their winning streak to five matches in all competitions.

It was Madrid’s fourth straight league win, taking Carlo Ancelotti’s team back to the top of the standings with 16 points from six matches, two points ahead of defending champions Atletico Madrid.

Benzema and Vinicius had been key for Madrid so far at the start of the season, having scored 11 of the team’s 15 goals in the league.

Finally, a win for Juventus

Rome: Critics had been demanding that Juventus use their younger players more during a horrendous start to Serie A, and they had to be appeased after Moise Kean, Federico Chiesa and Matthijs De Ligt each scored in a 3-2 win at Spezia for the Bianconeri’s first Italian league win of the season.

Meanwhile, substitute Theo Hernandez set up one goal then scored himself to earn AC Milan a 2-0 win over promoted Venezia.

League Cup: United ousted

London: One route to a first trophy since 2017 is already over for Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team were knocked out of the League Cup in the third round by West Ham on Wednesday.

Manuel Lanzini clinched a 1-0 victory after sweeping in from Ryan Fredericks’ cutback to give David Moyes a first victory in management at Old Trafford — seven years after United fired him.

Chelsea advanced by beating Aston Villa 4-3 on penalties, with Reece James scori

Arsenal host Leeds after beating AFC Wimbledon 3-0.

PSG leave it late, again

Paris: French league leaders Paris Saint-Germain made their seven straight wins but needed another injury-time winner to beat last-placed Metz 2-1 in an unconvincing performance. — AP
