Taking the lead after just 11 seconds wasn’t enough for Napoli to avoid a loss in the second round of Europa League group stage matches.
Eljif Elmas on Thursday netted the early goal for Napoli — the second-quickest ever in UEFA’s second-tier competition — but Spartak Moscow rallied to a 3-2 victory after both teams were reduced to 10 men.
In the new third-tier Europa Conference League, Harry Kane netted a hat-trick despite coming on as a substitute in a 5-1 victory over Slovenia’s FC Mura.
Meanwhile, Roma secured a 3-0 away win at Ukraine’s Zorya Luhansk. — AP
Koeman’s Barca days nearing end?
Barcelona: Ronald Koeman said today that Barcelona’s leadership has not spoken to him about his future, but that he has “eyes and ears” to catch the rumors about his possible firing. Spanish media has been rife with reports that Barcelona president Joan Laporta is close to making a coaching change after 3-0 loss at Benfica. “It is a complicated situation,” Koeman said the day before his team visits defending champions Atletico Madrid. “Nobody has told me anything, but I have eyes and ears. They are probably true, but nobody has told me.” AP
