For a number of years, major archery competitions were being held with iconic venues as the backdrop. Whether it was Mexico’s Mayapan Pyramids, Denmark’s 800-year-old Christiansborg Palace or Athens’ 2300-year-old Panathenaic Stadium, all these historic venues have been used as a stage for major competitions by World Archery over the years.

Back home, a national ranking tournament as well as Asian Championships was held in 2014 with the iconic Red Fort in the backdrop. This year on Dussehra (October 15), the famous Ram Ki Paidi ghat in Ayodhya will play host to country’s top 16 archers in men’s and women’s in both compound and recurve disciplines.

Importantly, the prize money will be the same for men’s and women’s archery in both the disciplines. Winners in recurve will take home Rs 1 lakh, while those winning compound competition will get Rs 75,000. Runners-up are set to take away Rs 60,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively. Those finishing in the top-8 placements will also get cash prizes.
