Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) athlete Vinija Vijayan recorded a New Meet Record in triple jump event of the ongoing 68th All India Police Athletics Championship, at the Sector 3 Tau Devi Lal Stadium today.

Vinija covered a total distance of 13.32m to surpass the old record of 13.31 recorded in 2005. Vinija bagged the gold medal, while Border Security Force’s (BSF) Melva George (12.91m) and Sonam (12.91m) claimed second and third position, respectively. In the men’s triple jump event, Dinesh (15.82m) of Tamil Nadu claimed the top spot, whereas Sonu Kumar (15.77m) of Rajasthan Police and Sundar C (15.43m) of Tamil Nadu were among the other two top finishers.

Meanwhile, in the men’s high jump event Manu Francis of Kerala Police claimed the gold medal by jumping to a maximum height of 2.09m. Both athletes of Tamil Nadu Police Veeramani S (2.06m) and Manivannan R (2.00m) claimed second and third position.

Sreedhu GS of Tamil Nadu Police claimed lead on the second day of the decathlon event by scoring total points of 2950. His teammates Durai Murugan S (2990 points) and Theivendiran R (2807 points) ended the day trailing at second and third position.

BSF’s Newton Katoky claimed the javelin throw top podium position with a throw of 76.16m. Krishna Kumar of Uttar Pradesh Police claimed the silver medal in 73.54m, while Manjinder Singh of CRPF ended his campaign by winning the bronze with a throw of 72.91m. In the women’s hammer throw event, Punjab’s Sarabbjit Kaur claimed the first position with a throw of 56.69s. Anita of CRPF claimed the second position by throwing 55.72m and Anmol Kaur of CRPF finished third with a throw of 55.38s.

In men’s shot put event, Jasdeep Singh (17.72m) of Punjab Police claimed the gold medal, whereas Umesh Kumar (17.22m) of CRPF won silver and Jaspal SIngh (16.84m) of Punjab Police won bronze. BSF’s Baldeep Singh won the hammer throw gold medal with a throw of 61.30m. CRPF’s Rahul Kumar (61.30m) and BSF’s Gurjohar Singh (59.64m) claimed second and third position.

Rajasthan Police’s main man Shrawan Kumar claimed the 10000m gold medal in 29:40.79s. Punjab Police Makhan Singh clocked 30:07.21s to claim the second position, while Rakesh Kumar of Rajasthan Police clocked 30:10.83s to finish third. In the women’s event, Punjab Police Seema Devi (34:28.94s) emerged winner. Meenu of Rajasthan Police claimed the second position in 35:44.26s and Saigeeta Naik of Maharashtra Police clocked 36:00.17s claimed the third position.

Khushbu Gupta of Sashastra Seema Bal won the 1500m race by clocking 4:27.02s. Sonali Desai of Maharashtra Police finished second with a timing of4:28.78s and BSF’s Sugandha claimed the third position in 4:31.17s

Naganathan P of Tamil Nadu Police won the men’s 400m race by clocking 46.61s. Bipin MS of Kerala Police claimed the second position in 47.13s, whereas Bighneraj Mirid of Odisha Police finished third in 47.31s. In the women’s 400m race, Ayana Thomas of CRPF claimed the top position in 53.34s, whereas Veerpal Kaur of Punjab Police (54.08s) and Smruthimol VR of Kerala Police (54.09s) claimed the second and third position. Kerala Police athletes claimed the top two positions in the men’s 100m dash. Midhun T clocked 10.54s to grab the top position, while Aswin KP took 10.55s to take away the second position. Gurlal Singh of Punjab Police claimed the third position in10.65s. Punjab Police’s Baljinder Singh won the men’s 20km walk event with a timing of 1:25:18.52s. Manish Rawat (1:25:26.41s) of Uttarakhand Police claimed second position and Kulwant Singh (1:25:46.34s) of BSF finished third.

Punjab Police lead

At the end of the second day, Punjab Police lead the points table with a total score of 56.000 points. BSF ended the day at second position with 45.500 points and Tamil Nadu Police claimed the third spot with 39.000 points. V Neerja, ADG Punjab Police and other senior officers of ITBP including IS Duhan (IG), Ashwani Kumar (DIG), MS Guleria and Surinder Khatri (Commandants) awarded the winners.
