WI close in on win
West Indies closed in on a big win against Afghanistan after another eventful day of the one-off Test in Lucknow today.
Sharmarh Brooks scored his first Test century to help West Indies take a 90-run first innings lead before spinners Rahkeem Cornwall and Roston Chase left Afghanistan reeling at 109/7 at the end of Day 2.
Brooks scored a fighting 111, raising crucial partnerships with John Campbell (55) and Shane Dowrich (42), and was the ninth wicket to fall.
“I just raised my hand for the team today,” Brooks said. “I thought today was much harder than yesterday. The idea was to keep Rashid (Khan) out as much as possible, and keep picking it off,” he added.
Cornwall and Chase then took three wickets each as Afghanistan ended the day just 19 runs ahead, with three wickets remaining.
Brief scores: Afghanistan: 187 & 109/7 (Ahmadi 62; Chase 3/10, Cornwall 3/41); West Indies: 277 (Brooks 111, Campbell 55; Hamza 5/74)
