Days after pulling out of the trials for the World Championships, India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has undergone an elbow surgery.

Vinesh had pulled out of the World Championship trials here on August 31, after competing in her opening bout. The 27-year-old she then had said that she had withdrawn from the trails due to “dizziness”, not an injury.

Today, however, she tweeted a photograph of herself in a hospital bed with the message: “Elbow surgery done! No matter how many times I fall, I will still rise.”

Vinesh had won the 53kg gold at the Asian Championships in April before losing in the quarterfinals in the Tokyo Olympics.

After returning from Tokyo, Vinesh revealed that she has been suffering from dizziness and anxiety for some time. Also, she was suspended by the Wrestling Federation of India for “indiscipline” before being let off with a warning. — TNS
