As an old video surfaced of cricketer Yuvraj Singh landing him into ‘casteist’ debate three days back, his fans took to social media to show outrage that he was targeted with a maligning campaign, that too after two months of the social media chat that led to it all.
In response to #युवराजसिंहमाफी_मांगो, his fans floated the hashtag #JiyeJiyeYuvraj, recalling moments of glory that the ace cricketer won for the nation – his six sixes, comeback from cancer and philanthropic work that he does through his foundation YouWeCan.
Yuvraj, meanwhile took to Twitter to clarify his stand, “This is to clarify that I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and will continue to spend my life for the welfare of people.”
The controversy aside, Yuvraj’s philanthropic work has been winning more fans to his side. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had lauded the cricketer’s efforts by tweeting, “Yuvraj Ji, Delhi is grateful to you for this generous contribution. Your remarkable victory over cancer is an inspiration, especially in these times. Together we shall overcome.”
An awareness video, mobilising hygiene kits, donating N 95 masks for health care heroes and monetary contribution, Yuvraj is tying up with corporates doing his bit in these trying times.
