Gurugram, August 24
The District Electoral Officer-cum-District Magistrate of Gurugram, Nishant Kumar Yadav, has asked the authorities deployed on poll duty to strictly implement the Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989. He asked officials to ensure political parties, leaders and candidates desiring to contest the Assembly elections do not misuse public places for poll campaigns.
Yadav said promotional material could be put up at places designated by the Election Commission.
“The lists of such designated places are available with the assistant election officers of the Assembly constituencies concerned,” he said, while adding that the political parties, leaders and candidates could collect these lists from their offices.
The DC added that the material could be put up on selected slots at public or private places, by paying the requisite fee to the departments concerned that were owners of those buildings and by taking prior permission from the election office.
Legal action under the People’s Representative Act, Property Defacement Act etc would also be taken against persons who print, publish and put up the promotional material without seeking prior permission, he said. Yadav added that 20 flying squad teams were constituted and five teams each would monitor the four Assembly constituencies of the district.
